At its monthly meeting on October 3rd, and following due consideration of suggestions and concerns from many residents who attended this meeting, the CHBIOA Board of Directors has directed staff to implement the following actions:
- Collect all available relevant public documents from informed sources and post them on our website so as to provide residents the opportunity to become better informed on the issues. There are many issues that we know are of concern to our residents, some of which your HOA can take a position on, many which it can not legally engage. It is therefore incumbent upon each resident to become familiar with the issues that are important to you, and to then make your point to the City Council, and not just rely on your HOA.
- Provide links to the City website so that the latest meeting dates are readily available.
- Reiterate that the CHBIOA Board of Directors has already notified the City in writing last month that we are very concerned with the many negative implications that this proposed land swap and housing project will have on our property values, the quality of life, and on the health and safety of residents. Notably, residents on both sides of the Bay Farm bridge have universally pointed out that the existing traffic congestion will only become worse, and that he City’s stated solution to mitigate the congestion by re-synchronizing the lights on Island Drive, is a solution we feel is totally unacceptable.
- Following the completion of our own research, the CHBIOA Board will consider adopting a formal Board Resolution to oppose the project at our monthly meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 16th at 6:45 pm.
- During the week of October 17-21, staff will be conducting a field survey of our own of the drivers heading east on Island Drive during the hours of 7-9 am each day. The information gathered from our survey will be used to reinforce our community interests with the City.
- Finally, the group of Presidents from the Boards of some 30 of our local home owner associations has met to discuss our concerns regarding this proposed project, and these Presidents as well as the CHBIOA Board are encouraging ALL residents to make the effort to appear at both the Planning Board meeting on October 24, as well as the City Council meeting scheduled for December 13. It will not be necessary for all members of the audience to speak, but many of these Presidents will be speaking on behalf of their associations. Your presence in the audience will have an important impact on the proceedings, even if these meetings are only the first in the series that typically take a half year or more for the City to “scope” and approve a plan, eventually followed by adoption of the final Environmental Impact Report and final approval of the project sometime next year.
